Rolling Samurais
OK, for my dad.. if you go to wikipedia and type in suzuki samurai or roll suzuki samurai, you will come to (aside from sushi recipes), the true story about the Consumer Reports fib.
they did manage to roll one, but
1) an old model with leaf springs
2) under extremely hard manouevering
3) basically, trying very hard to.
You can roll over a hatchback if you try hard enough, and a short wheelbase (ultra short actually), stiffly sprung box is not that hard.
But this model, 98, has modifications such as springs (not leafs), traction bars, and slightly wider track.
I took it the Maitencillo the very day I got it, and no worries on the highway, small dirt roads, etc.

I read recently that all new cars in the US will have to have electronic stabilization by 2012. It's the American Way! Rather than teach drivers, they throw technology at it.
Item 1. Airbags
The primary purpose is to protect drivers who will not wear their seat belts. Actually some authories (academic/automotive, not gun/taser/fat-ass enabled) argue that bags can cause injuries when properly belted. Broken arms, shattered optical glasses, etc. are common. Smaller framed people even get decapitated by the exploding bag.
Item 2. ABS Brakes
For the person who does not know how to handle brakes when skidding. (Just testing!) Pumping the brakes and steering will do the trick, thank you.
and now! Ta-dan! Electronic Stabilization!
Each of this features adds about US$1K to the cost of the vehicle. Repairing them is also quite expensive and has to be done at the dealer. Have you ever heard of a discount dealer garage?
Welcome to the ISO 9000 world! What really pisses me off is that the engine computer also includes, without the owner's consent, a black box that records data of the last 5-10 seconds of operation before a crash. This is not for the driver or the owner, it is for the insurance and the police to shaft you.

Now, about the stability of your Hummer, I do not think you will overturn under road conditions, you are a good driver with good reactions. But under off-road conditions even mules fall off the cliff.
