Leon de Tarapaca

I have often walked in front of the Government palace, but a very dear friend proposed this photo. I found it quite nice.

Arturo Alessandri Palma, cousin of my mums grandfather, was president of Chile for two periods.
The first (20 to ´25) was very complicated since the country was in economic turmoil after germany discovered a subsitute for saltpeter (gunpowder ingredient), which was the pillar of Chile´s economy.

During his second period as president (1932 to 1938), he spearheaded new labour laws, the building of the national stadium, improved roads, railways, bridges, and oh yes, women´s suffrage.

Anyway.. he was also known for his tendancy to talk with his hands.
